I just got a great question from a younger guy named Alex. He\u2019s newly graduated from college, and thinking about the rest of his life. He\u2019s interested in being a writer, too, so he wondered how I got into writing books, what he should be doing to become an author, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But this question was my favorite:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHow do I make an impact?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
My response is below. And I know it may seem counter-intuitive, but it\u2019s my honest response:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Honestly? Don\u2019t try to make an impact.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Instead, walk with God. Have an ongoing, conversational relationship with Him in life. And ask Him to make a way for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He will be in charge of whatever impact results. But aim at this, not impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sometimes, indirection is important to learn. Because this is all about becoming a certain, different sort of person, and everything else is downstream from that. Everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In fact, people who make an \u201cimpact\u201d without this ongoing, conversational relationship with God are often guilty of another kind of impact, a destructive one, down the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n God isn\u2019t looking for us to make an impact. He\u2019s looking or a believing loyalty. He can handle the rest for us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That\u2019s been my experience. When I\u2019m trying to be or do something significant, I\u2019m in trouble. When I\u2019m saying, \u201cYou be in charge, you guide my steps\u201d\u2026? I\u2019ve seen, you know, impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He\u2019s better at this than us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Brant Hansen God isn\u2019t looking for us to make an impact. He\u2019s looking for a believing loyalty.
